Sembower Field, located on North Fee Lane beside Foster Residence Center, started Indiana Athletics' move to the northern campus location from Central Campus in the late 1950s.
The site of all Indiana home baseball games, Sembower Field was constructed in 1958 and was named after IU English professor and former IU shortstop, the late Charles J. Sembower. The complex has undergone several upgrades -- a new irrigation system for the entire complex, foam padding on the backstop and the outfield walls, a Daktronics scoreboard with LED message center and tri-vision advertising panels new for 2001 season, new dugouts and press box in 1997 and new fencing around the outfield and backstop areas. The brickdust infield has excellent drainage capabilities, lending the Hoosier schedule to very few rainouts.
The field's condition and the generally mild southern Indiana winters frequently allows the Hoosiers to play
at home in late February and early March before leaving for Florida for Spring Training. Sembower Field
has served as host for many amateur baseball tournaments throughout the years.
With spectator comfort in mind, aluminum bleachers with a seating capacity of 2,250 are available as are concession facilities.
