Rob Senderoff was named assistant men's basketball coach at Indiana on May 1, 2006 and begins his second year with the Hoosiers. One of the nation's most noted recruiters, Senderoff has helped Indiana and Kent State to five straight post season tournament appearances, including each of the last two NCAA Tournaments.
Senderoff works with the teams post players , including All-Big Ten and preseason All-American D.J. White. His ties nationally also are a big reason why the Hoosiers were able to attract a recruiting class in 2007 that ranked among the top 10 in the nation. He, as do all of the assistant coaches, has a big role in game preparation through their scouting efforts.
Prior to coming to IU, Senderoff spent four years as an assistant coach with Kent State University, where he helped the Golden Flashes to four-straight 20-win seasons and four consecutive postseason appearances, including the 2006 NCAA Tournament.
While with the Golden Flashes, Senderoff worked primarily with the post players, including 2004 Mid-American Conference (MAC) First Team and MAC Defensive Player of the Year, John Edwards, who played in the NBA with the Atlanta Hawks and Indiana Pacers.
Additionally, he also coached eventual All-Pro tight end Antonio Gates of the San Diego Chargers at Kent State, another All-MAC performer. During his tenure at Miami University and he was on a staff that helped develop current NBA players Wally Szczerbiak and Ira Newble.
Senderoff also has stints as an assistant coach at four other schools, including Towson University (2001-02), Yale University (1999-2001), Fordham University (1997-99) and Miami (Ohio) University (1995-97). In all, Senderoff has a combined 15 years of coaching experience at the Division I level.
At Kent State, seven players earned All-MAC honors, including 2006 MAC Player of the Year DeAndre Haynes. At Yale, he saw one recruit earn Ivy League Freshman of the Year accolades and at Fordham another player earned A-10 Freshman of the Year honors.
A native of Spring Valley, N.Y., Senderoff earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from Albany in 1995 and a master's in sports studies from Miami in 1997. He is married to the former Lauren Edelstein, and the couple has one daughter, Samantha Brooke (4).
