BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Rock and Roll legend John Mellencamp will perform his new hit "Our Country" prior to the Indiana-Michigan State Homecoming game on Saturday, Oct. 28. Kickoff is set for noon EDT at Memorial Stadium.

Mellencamp, who will be joined by The Singing Hoosiers and the IU African American Chorale Ensemble, is a long-time IU supporter, Bloomington resident and friend of head football coach Terry Hoeppner. He recently sang "Our Country" to open game two of the World Series on Oct. 22 and has sold over 25 million albums in the United States.

"I have been a supporter of IU Athletics for over 20 years," Mellencamp said. "Coach Hoeppner and I have become good friends, and he has done an outstanding job with this football program. Terry has shown great courage and is a shining example of strength and leadership that we can all admire. Performing at Homecoming is my pleasure."

Hoeppner has issued the Hoosier Nation Challenge, calling for 50,000 raucous fans to pack "The Rock" for one of the biggest home games in recent memory.

"I'm challenging the Hoosier Nation to pack 'The Rock' with 50,000 screaming fans when we play Michigan State," Hoeppner said. "We appreciate my friend John Mellencamp helping us celebrate Homecoming, and we want all of the Hoosier Nation to arrive early, stay late and help us earn another victory. Our fans have played a huge role in our progress this season. We have come a long way, but we have a ways to go. It's always a lot more fun to have the fans with us on our journey to Play 13."
