BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -
Indiana University Team Physician Dr. Andy Hipskind has been named team doctor for the U-17 Men's National Team as it travels to Montagui, France for the Mondial Minimes Montaigu Tournament from March 14-25.
"It's a privilege to work for the United States Soccer Team," Hipskind said. "I'm honored to represent Indiana University in this endeavor as well."
The U.S. will face Germany on March 19, Japan on March 20 and England on March 22 in the first international trip for the players born in 1992 or later, who are eligible for the next FIFA Under-17 World Cup in 2009.
This is Hipskind's first appointment with U.S. Soccer after an interview process which involved U.S. Soccer Director of Operations Matt Burke and U-17 team athletic trainer Michael White. In addition to Hipskind's Hoosier link, former IU great Brian Maisonneuve currently serves as an assistant coach with the U-17 squad.
The Indiana men's soccer program has long had a connection with the U-17 Men's National Team. Current Hoosiers Kevin Alston and Daniel Kelly, and incoming freshman Tommy Meyer all spent time as part of the U-17 Men's National Team Residency Program.
