BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana field hockey team topped Cal, 4-2, in the home-opener, with goals coming from seniors Kelsey Kiper and Lena Grote, junior Jaclyn Zamudio and redshirt sophomore Morgan Fleetwood.

The Hoosiers' (2-1) offense took charge immediately, earning a penalty corner in the first two and half minutes of the game which led to Kiper scoring off of a rebound from a shot by junior Kristy McFadden. At the 14:05 mark, Grote scored IU's second goal as she took a pass from Fleetwood, who sent the ball towards the cage waste-high, for Grote to tip it past the keeper. The Golden Bears (1-3) got on the board at the 24:25 mark as Megan Psyllos scored on a penalty corner to cut Indiana's lead in half, 2-1. Cal went on to dominate possession in the final 10 minutes of the half, tallying two more shots before the break.

The second half started much like the first half ended with Cal recording two more shots before IU's Zamudio took a pass from Fleetwood on the right side of the circle to send the ball into the left post of the goal into an open net, giving IU a 3-1 lead. The Golden Bears recovered as Andrea Earle scored on a penalty corner to bring her squad back within one, 3-2. Cal kept on the pressure, but Fleetwood scored the Hoosiers' final goal as she battled for the ball from the middle of the circle to score in the left corner of the net to seal the 4-2 victory for IU.

Fleetwood led the Hoosiers with three shots, two of which were on goal, and added two assists with her late goal. Kiper tallied two shots on goal with one goal and an assist, while Grote and Zamudio each tallied one goal on one shot. McFadden also took a shot for IU and redshirt junior Brenna Moeljadi recorded two shots, one on goal.

Junior Becky Pany started in goal for Indiana and recorded four saves in 70 minutes.

The Golden Bears and Hoosiers matched each other in shots, 11-11, however Cal earned nine penalty corners to IU's five.

Today's win also marked the 90th of head coach Amy Robertson's career at Indiana.

The Hoosiers return to action on Saturday, Sept. 11, as they play host to Ohio at 2 p.m. ET at the IU Hockey Field. All Girl Scouts that attend Saturday's game will earn an IU badge and the first 100 fans will receive a mini American flag. Cal will face Ohio on Friday, Sept. 10 at 3 p.m. in neutral site game.
