The Indiana women's golf team shot a 313 (+25) in round two of the NCAA East Regional being held at the UGA Golf Course in Athens, Ga. The Hoosiers two-round score of 622 has them tied for 15th with Tennessee.
Florida took over the team lead at 585 (+9) with Duke three strokes back (588/+12). Rounding out the top five are South Carolina (594/+18), Auburn (598/+22), Georgia (599/+23) and Furman (599/+23). Regional play concludes Saturday with an 18-hole round. The top eight teams, as well as the top three individuals not on those eight teams, will advance to the NCAA Championship May 20-23 in Albuquerque, N.M. Indiana will tee off at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday and will play with Georgia State and UNC Wilmington.
"We hit a lot of good shots and gave ourselves an opportunity to score, we just didn't capitalize on it," said head coach Clint Wallman. "When we got behind we got impatient and started making some putting errors. That adds up to big scores, especially on this golf course. You get on the wrong shelf and you are going to have to three-putt.
"I think the goal for tomorrow is to try and be patient and keep with the good shots that we are hitting."
Laura Nochta shot a 2-over 74 on Friday, moving up to a tie for 56th with a 36-hole total of 155 (+11). Nochta made the turn at three over with a 38 on the front nine, bogeying the final two holes of an otherwise solid half of play. She continued to step up over the back nine, including a birdie on 13 and added another on 16 before closing out with a pair of pars. Nochta's 74 is the low round of the tournament so far for the Hoosiers.

After a 76 in the first round, sophomore Anita Gahir posted an 80 on Friday and is tied for 61st (76-80=156). Gahir had a pair of birdies on the front nine, going one under on holes three and nine, and offset two bogeys for an even-par 35. The final nine holes were a struggle for the second-team All-Big Ten performer, beginning with bogeys on 10, 11 and 12. After a par on 13, Gahir double bogeyed hole 14, then finished with bogeys on three of the final four holes.
The back nine also gave senior Lauren Harling fits as she closed the second round with an 81, giving her a score of 158 after 36 holes and in a tie for 73rd. Harling bogeyed three of the final four holes on the front nine to post a 39 (+4) heading into the turn. Holes 13, 14 and 15 gave her fits with double bogeys on 14 and 15. She was forced to take a ball drop on 13 but placed her shot just a foot from the pin, minimizing the damage. The round ended on a positive note with her lone birdie of the day coming on 18.
Sophomore Kellye Belcher also carded an 81 and is tied for 83rd with a score of 160. Belcher hit a gorgeous third shot on the par-4 sixth hole, placing her ball inches from the cup to save par and stay a three over through six holes. Bogeys on seven, eight and nine put her at +6 as she headed for the back nine. She recovered from her shaky start with five-straight pars before a bogey on 15. A double bogey on 17 added another two strokes to her total.
