During the 2006 season, IUHOOSIERS.com will give women's soccer fans an insider's look at what it's like to be a member of the team. Every Tuesday, a different Hoosier will bring her view of the weekend's events to IUHOOSIERS.com. The entry for Tuesday, Oct. 24, is by freshman Christie Kotynski.
This weekend started off with a very long bus ride to Iowa on Thursday... I think it was around 8 hours. The ride felt like an eternity, until we put in the first season of "Entourage" compliments of Natalie O'Bryan! That made the bus ride a lot more enjoyable!
Friday was a busy day leading up to the game. We had practice in the morning, then lunch afterwards. When we got back it was time to schedule. Being a freshman this was the first time I was scheduling my classes on my own, and luckily for me I got all the classes I wanted!
Later that night we played Iowa, and like all Big Ten games it was a hard fought one. We all competed and played hard on the field, and after 90 minutes, the game went into overtime. Despite our heart and determination in the two overtimes, we ended up losing 1-0.
Saturday was full of more traveling, which meant more Entourage after some studying time on the bus. Once we got to the hotel we loaded our bags into our rooms and then set off for practice. This was a very good practice, yet at the end we had a few injuries. One of these was Coach Lyon, who I knocked over while trying to head a corner kick; another was a bloody nose for Kate Nierman. After practice, we headed back to the bus and found Coach feeding a horse an apple and talking to it. Needless to say this was a funny site.
Team dinner on Saturday was extremely good at Chili's (Good choice, Lindsay!). After dinner we got to order a movie. I ended up watching "Little Miss Sunshine" with Megan Reinhardt and Lindsay McCarthy, which was strange, but hilarious!
Sunday morning was filled with a usual pre-game meal of the hotel breakfast and it was very tasty! After packing up all our stuff, we headed to our game against Illinois.
During the game the weather was freezing and all of us were bundled in layers of clothes under our jerseys. We fought hard and played well as a team against a good Illinois team. Even with our battling and great effort, we ended up losing 1-0. It was a difficult game but we played until the final whistle.
This weekend was hard for us as a team, but we "hugged it out" and are moving on to prepare for our next big game - Purdue. Let's go IU!!!
