DRAMATIC DEBUT
Sophomore transfer Kate Zubkova made quite a splash in her first meet for the Cream and Crimson at the Irish Invitational Jan. 11-12.
Zubkova set pool records in the 100- and 200-yard backstroke events, including an NCAA A time of 54.18 in the 100. Her time of 1:58.03 in the 200 back is an NCAA B consideration.
She was also victorious in the 100 butterfly and swam the lead-off leg on the victorious 400 free, 400 medley and 200 medley relay teams.
The 200 medley relay team of Zubkova, Sarah Stockwell, Donna Smailis and Presley Bard set a pool record and recorded an NCAA B time of 1:43.18.
It is no surprise that Zubkova has found immediate success as she was a member of the Ukranian Olympic Team in 2004 where she finished 28th in the 100 fly and swam on the 400 medley relay team.
ZUBKOVA EARNS BIG TEN, NATIONAL HONORS
For her performance at the Irish Invitational, Kate Zubkova was named the Big Ten Swimmer of the Week on Jan. 15.

Zubkova's performance helped lead the team to a first-place finish over No. 13 Michigan, Notre Dame and Illinois.
