SETTING THE SCENE
The Hoosiers open Big Ten action on Friday, Oct. 26 at Northwestern.

NEWS AND NOTES
• The Hoosiers look to bounce back after a disappointing 150-93 loss in a dual meet at Missouri on Oct. 12.
• The women won just two swimming events, with Brittany Barwegan taking the 200 fly in a time of 2:00.24, and Sarah Stockwell first in the 200 breast (2:18.69).
Brittney Feldman was first in the women's one-meter springboard with a score of 279.15. She was followed by Amy Korthauer in fourth (210.98) and Heidi Mahnken in sixth (153.45).
• In the three-meter event, Feldman was second (277.20), Korthauer third (239.03) and Mahnken seventh (169.72).

DUAL WITH NORTHWESTERN NAMED SWIMMING WORLD MAGAZINE'S "MEET OF THE WEEK"
• Indiana's combined dual meet against Northwestern at the Norris Aquatics Center has been chosen as Swimming World Magazine's Meet of the Week for the weekend.
• As part of the Meet of the Week program, SwimmingWorldMagazine.com will preview the meet on its front page and also recap the results on its homepage following the competition.
• In its second year, the Meet of the Week program is scheduled to feature 15 meets across all college divisions during the fall portion of the 2007-08 season.

 

 

PREVIEWING NORTHWESTERN
• This meet will serve as the season opener for the Wildcats.
• Last year Northwestern finished seventh with 301 points.
• Senior Andrea Hupman leads NU. Hupman was third in the 100 free at the 2007 Big Ten Championships and went on to finish 16th in the event at the NCAA meet.
• Hupman is one of five NU seniors, including Katie Braun who swan the 100 butterfly and the 400 free relay at the 2007 NCAA Championships.
• Senior Beth Campbell is the top returning diver, posting 10 top-three finishes for the Wildcats.

NATIONAL RANKINGS
• The Indiana women are ranked 23rd in the first set of rankings from the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Top 25 Coaches Poll.
• IU is one of five Big Ten teams in the top 25, joining No. 9 Minnesota, No. 13 Michigan, No. 16 Wisconsin and No. 17 Pen State.
• As for upcoming opponents, the Hoosiers will face No. 6 Texas (Nov. 2-3), No. 13 Michigan (Nov. 2-3; Jan. 11-12), No. 17 Kentucky (Nov. 30), and No. 22 Notre Dame (Jan. 11-12).

HARRIMAN SELECTED TO 2009 CANADA GAMES HOPEFULS PROJECT
• Freshman Amy Harriman is one of 36 swimmers from the province of Ontario selected to the 2009 Canada Games Hopefuls Project.
• The goal of the project is to being a training and selection process to deterime which swimmers will represent Ontario at the 2009 Canada Games.
• Harriman was selected in the 200 backstroke.
• The project includes 1) Performance Analysis, 2) Goal Setting, 3) Race Plans, 4) Training Information, 5) Coaching Workshops, 6) Training Sessions and 7) Training Updates.
• Swim Ontario will play host to a training day for 2009 CG Hopefuls on Monday, November 26.

DEFENDING BIG TEN CHAMPS
• Indiana won its first Big Ten title since 2003, scoring 715. team points to win the 2007 league championship.
• IU won seven event titles and set 10 school record and two Big Ten record in the process.
Christina Loukas swept the diving events, becoming just the fourth league diver to win all three events in the same championship meet.
Leila Vaziri set a new Big Ten record in winning the 100 backstroke.
Presley Bard set a new school record in the 200 back in claing her first individual Big Ten title.
Allison Kay became the first Hoosier ever to win the 200-yard butterfly.
