SETTING THE SCENE
The Hoosiers will play host to their only home dual meet of the season as they welcome Texas and Michigan to the Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatics Center this weekend.
While the meet will run in a 3-session championship format, it will be scored as a double dual meet.
NEWS AND NOTES
Indiana got back on the winning track with a 163.5-136.5 dual meet victory at Northwestern on Oct. 26.
The Hoosiers were victorious in 11 events.
Presley Bard won two individual events and swam the leadoff leg of the victorious 400-yard medley relay team.
Her winning time of 54.54 in the 100 backstroke is an NCAA "B" cut. She was also victorious in the 200 back (2:01.79).
Sarah Stockwell was also a two-time winner, taking the 100-yard breaststroke (1:04.39) and 200-yard breast (2:21.20).
Stockwell is 2-0 in the 200 breast this season.
She also swam the second leg of the 400-yard medley relay.
Freshman Amanda Smith had a solid outing with wins in the 1000-yard freestyle (9:56.71) and 500-yard free (4:53.49).
That time in the 500 free is an NCAA "B" cut.
Brittney Feldman swept the diving events, winning the 1-meter (308.45) and 3-meter (312.60).
It was her second-straight win on the 1-meter after taking first at Missouri on Oct. 12.

"I thought that the team did a better job then where we previously were, so we're just trying to come together as a team, improve our depth and get more people involved in scoring. We won some real close races, which is really critical, so I guess that's what I'm most happy about."
"We're pretty strong in the strokes right now, but we can be better in the freestyles too, so we'll look to put some more emphasis on that. "
COACH LOOZE PREVIEWING TEXAS AND MICHIGAN
"This will be a challenging competition as we go up against two top-10 teams. We expect these will be the stiffest races we have seen all semester. It will be a good bench mark to see where we are at right now with this team."
PREVIEWING TEXAS
Texas opens its dual meet season this weekend against Indiana and Michigan.
The Longhorns finished second at the annual Big 12 Relays on Oct. 20.
Texas posted second-place finishes in 13 of 16 swimming relay events.
Texas placed sixth at last year's NCAA Championships, led by an NCAA title in platform diving from senior Jessica Livingston.
Last year Indiana defeated Texas, 138-105 in Austin.
Texas is coached by Kim Brackin. She is assisted by Jim Henry and diving coach Matt Scoggin.
PREVIEWING MICHIGAN
Michigan is 1-1 on the dual meet season after a win over Toledo (Oct. 26) and a loss at Florida (Oct. 20).
Swimming long-course meters at Florida, junior Emily Brunemann swam an NCAA `A' qualifying time with a 16:47.47 performance in the 1,500-meter freestyle.
Michigan placed sixth at last year's NCAA Championships.
The Wolverines were second at the 2007 Big Ten Championships, finishing more than 150 points behind the Hoosiers.
Jim Richardson is the head coach of the Wolverines. He is assisted by Stefanie Kerska and diving coach Christopher Bergere.
NATIONAL RANKINGS
The Indiana women are ranked 23rd in the first set of rankings from the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Top 25 Coaches Poll.
IU is one of five Big Ten teams in the top 25, joining No. 9 Minnesota, No. 13 Michigan, No. 16 Wisconsin and No. 17 Pen State.
As for upcoming opponents, the Hoosiers will face No. 6 Texas (Nov. 2-3), No. 13 Michigan (Nov. 2-3; Jan. 11-12), No. 17 Kentucky (Nov. 30), and No. 22 Notre Dame (Jan. 11-12).
BARD, FELDMAN NAB BIG TEN SWIMMING AND DIVING HONORS
After helping lead the Indiana women's swimming and diving team to a 163.5-136.5 dual meet victory at Northwestern on Oct. 26, sophomores Presley Bard and Brittney Feldman are the Big Ten Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively, the league office announced Oct. 30.
Presley racked up two individual titles and participated on the winning 400 medley relay team help lead the 23rd-ranked Hoosiers to victory. The 100-yard backstroke was the sophomore's first win of the meet with a NCAA "B" time of 54.54. The next closet competitor to Presley was nearly three seconds behind. The Hoosier swimmer also took first in the 200 backstroke timing in at 2:01.79. In the 400 medley relay, the Californian swam the lead off leg as the quartet posted a time of 3:45.75. She also swam the second leg of the 400 freestyle relay as IU place second clocking in at 3:31.96. Presley is honored with her first career weekly award.
Feldman swept both diving events this past weekend at Northwestern. Off the one-meter board, Feldman totaled 308.45 points for the win and from the three-meter springboard she posted a winning score of 312.60. The Hoosier sophomore garners her first career weekly honor.
LAST TIME OUT
The Indiana University women's swimming and diving team bounced back from a disappointing season opener to come away with a 163.5-136.5 dual meet victory at Northwestern on Oct. 26.
Depth was key for the Hoosiers as they had two top-three finishers in seven events and were victorious in 11 events. Sophomore Presley Bard and junior Sarah Stockwell led the way as each posted a pair of individual victories.
Bard was a winner in the 100- (54.54) and 200-yard backstroke (2:01.79) Her 100-yard backstroke mark is an NCAA "B" qualifying time. Bard led a 1-2 IU finish in the 200 back with Ashley Jones touching the wall second (2:03.06). Bard also teamed up with Stockwell, Brittany Barwegen and Donna Smailis to place first in the 400-yard medley relay (3:45.75). Stockwell led the way in the 100- (1:04.39) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:21.20).
Freshman Amanda Smith picked up her first career wins in the 1,000-yard freestyle (9:56.71) and 500-yard free (4:53.49), while Smailis added another four points with a second-place showing in the 200 free (1:53.27). Smith's mark in the 500 free is an NCAA "B" time.
Junior Abby Cooper came up with a pair of top-three finishes, taking third in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:06.03) and second in the 200-breast (2:21.34). Barwegen was a winner in the 200-yard butterfly, posting an NCAA "B" qualifying time of 1:59.44. She was also second overall and the top IU finisher in the 100-yard fly (56.34).
Sophomore Brittany Feldman won the 1-meter diving event with a score of 308.45, then went on to capture the 3-meter title (312.60). Amy Korthauer was fourth in the 3-meter (235.95).
Jones and Barwegen teamed up to finish first (2:05.97) and third (2:07.41) in the 200-yard individual medley.
SENIOR TIME?
Although it is just the first home meet of the season, this weekend's matchup with Texas and Michigan will also serve as the final "dual meet" home event for the IU seniors.
Swimmers Brittany Epperson, and Christie Fuchs and divers Ashley Greene and Jade Summerlin will be honored prior to Friday's 6 p.m. session.
The only other home event for the women this season is the Hoosierland Open, Nov. 15-17.
