Pierce Earns Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week Honors

Nov. 12, 2007

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Senior libero Juli Pierce is the Big Ten Defensive Player of Week for the week of Nov. 5-11, announced the Big Ten office on Monday.

Pierce tallied 35 digs in two three-game matches over the weekend, averaging 5.83 saves per contest. The senior also handled all 34 of her service reception attempts successfully and led the Hoosiers to the team's second-highest hitting percentage of the conference season at a .246 clip against Minnesota on Friday. The Georgetown, Ind., native recorded 21 digs against Iowa on Saturday, marking the highest three-game saves total by a Hoosier this season, while her 14 digs total against the Gophers is the team's fifth-highest. Pierce has compiled 434 digs this year and is just three saves shy of Indiana's all-time single-season record. Her 4.21 digs per game average for the season currently ranks as the eighth best in the conference.

Pierce's next opportunity to break that record will be Wednesday night as the Hoosiers travel to West Lafayette for an 8 PM showdown with the Purdue Boilermakers. The match will be broadcast nationally on the Big Ten Network.
