Jack Steps Down as Assistant Coach, But Will Remain With the Program

Nov. 29, 2007

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - David Jack will be switching roles for 2008 volleyball season, resigning from his position as full-time assistant coach, yet still playing a role in the program in some capacity.

"I'm switching roles, but will remain with the team in some capacity in order to have more flexibility in my work," said Jack. "With the busy travel of my wife, Felisha Legette-Jack, being the head women's basketball coach here at Indiana University, I wanted to be around more and make myself available to our nine-year-old son, Maceo. I also wanted to finish what I started and continue my educational process at IU."

"David's first priority is, understandably, his family," said Head Coach Sherry Dunbar. "His contributions to this program from the very beginning of the rebuilding process have been invaluable. We are not saying goodbye, however, as we fully intend his involvement with the program to continue. His on-court presence has been and will continue to be one of the keys to our future success."

Jack will still be attending practice daily and making as many road trips as possible. The search for a new assistant coach has already begun with several candidates planning campus visits in the next few weeks.

"I am very lucky to still be able to be a part of this great program that is certainly on the rise," said Jack. "Coach Dunbar is doing great things here and I wanted to continue to be a part of the growth process. I enjoy the rigors of practice everyday working with our players. This will also give us an opportunity to add to what I already consider to be a great coaching staff, increasing our knowledge of the game and making the program stronger."

Jack provides the Hoosiers with prior head coaching experience and a vast knowledge of the game following a prolific playing career. He was an eight-time All-American selection at the U.S. Open Championships, participating from 1990-2005. Jack was also a member of the Jamaican National Team from 1985-1998, including a stint as team captain.

"I feel good about the program turning the corner with the coaching staff leading the way, setting the standard for what and how Indiana Volleyball should be," said Jack. "Our fans were extremely excited that we were always competing regardless of who we were playing. I'm impressed with the academic, as well as athletic, standard set forth by Indiana University. We are moving forward in the right direction and I am thankful to Coach Dunbar and the athletic department for giving me the opportunity to continue to be a part of the program's future success."
