Hoosiers Complete Sweep At Elite Six With 11-8 Win Over Hartwick

March 3, 2008

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Indiana and Hartwick met for the second time this season and it was the Hoosiers looking revenge after dropping a 8-6 decision to the Hawks (6-7) at the Triton Invite in San Diego, Calif. And Indiana (9-7) was able to do just that, coming away with an 11-8 win to wrap-up a four-game sweep at the Elite Six Tournament in College Park, Md.

Brooke Zimmerman got off to a quick start against the Hawks, scoring two goals in the first two minutes of the game, only to see Hartwick come back with three goals of their own in the period to take the lead. Kara Butler and Nicole Sands scored two quick goals for the Hoosiers to retake the lead before Hartwick scored two of their own in the last 2:07 of the period to take a 5-4 lead.

From here on out, it was all Indiana's defense, which held Hartwick to three goals in the second half while the Indiana offense erupted for seven goals over that span. Sands added her second of the game in the third period and Kelly Palmberg gave the Hoosiers a 6-5 lead with her 14th goal of the season. Hartwick evened the score at 6-6 with three minutes left in the third period before Nicole Redder put IU up for good, 7-6, with just 27 seconds left in the third.

The offense did not let up in the fourth quarter, finding the back of the goal four times with Kelsey Campbell, Maggie Hannon and Amy Moore (twice) doing the honors.

Indiana has now won six of its last eight games going into its spring break trip to California to take on three teams ranked in the top 15 entering this weekend. The first game of the trip will see the Hoosiers take on Cal State Northridge on March 11 at 2:30 p.m. Pacific Time.
