BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The No. 14 Indiana women's water polo team extended its win streak to seven games Sunday, as the Hoosiers' Courtney Livak netted the game-winner with just 22 seconds left in the game, topping No. 12 Hartwick, 7-6.

Livak, a freshman from San Jose, Calif., punched in the rebound of classmate Emily Schmitt's shot in the final minute, which brought the Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatic Center crowd to its feet.

"It was basically a good shot by Emily Schmitt, a good block by the goalie and I was in the right place at the right time," said Livak.

Schmitt admits that her teammates stepped up big to make the winning goal happen.

"I would give Courtney most of the credit," said Schmitt, a native of Beaverton, Ore. "It was a perfect pass from Krista (Peterson) on the weak side and a good rebound by Courtney. She was really aggressive on the loose ball, and she was right where she needed to be."

In a game that clearly was a battle of goalkeepers, Hoosier sophomore Jessica Goldner tied a career high 15 saves on 23 shots. The Los Altos Hills, Calif., native also recorded 15 saves earlier this year against Cal.

The Hoosiers however, netted only 7-of-30 shots, mainly due in part to an outstanding performance from Hartwick's goalie, Amy Brunton.

"I was pleased, with how we played today especially with the way we played on the defensive end," said Indiana head coach Barry King. "We have been preaching that if we play defense and hold people to five or six goals, we can score six or seven and win. We did that today in scoring seven goals and getting the win."

Sophomore Krista Peterson and Schmitt each netted two goals for the Hoosiers, including a perfect 2-of-2 mark for Peterson. The Portland, Ore., native also recorded three steals.

Indiana senior All-American Kristin Stanford was held scoreless in the game for the first time since April 7, 2001 - a span of 21 games.

The win gives the Hoosiers a 3-0 mark all-time against Hartwick, with all three of the contests coming this season.

"I thought we were better prepared mentally for this weekend than we have been in the past," King said. "It seemed as though we had less distractions and the girls were really focused."

Indiana's seven-game win streak is the best stretch for the Hoosiers since 2000, when they won 11 games straight.

IU will open Collegiate Water Polo Association conference play next weekend, March 8-9, in Ann Arbor, Mich., as the Hoosiers travel to Michigan for the first of two CWPA Weekends.

IU will battle Penn State-Behrend at 10:15 a.m., Mercyhurst at 2:00 p.m., and rival Michigan at 7:00 p.m. The Hoosiers will close the CWPA Weekend with Washington & Jefferson at 10:45 a.m.
